# Paracosm 1.0.0

Released 2026-09-27 from commit `278b3930230153c082236505e9b7b338c1d89db4`.

**Start here: `handbook/quickstart.md` in the source zip.**

## What Paracosm is

Paracosm is a standalone OpenSimulator world that an AI assistant can build and tend. It is OpenSimulator 0.9.3.0 with seven source patches, the WorldBridge region module (a loopback-only HTTP control API to the region), an MCP server that gives an AI client WorldBridge's operations as tools, Python tools that make meshes, textures, sounds and terrain, and Firestorm-Paracosm, a patched Firestorm viewer. It was used to build one island region almost entirely headless, by an AI assistant working through WorldBridge while a person walked the result in the viewer; the handbook in the source zip records what that taught.

## Updates

- **2026-09-27, the starter world:** the Gifts from Neap box now also holds the safari outfits (one fitted to the
  viewer's female shape, one to the male) and the safari torch, which it should have had from the start; its cottage
  smoke is now real particle smoke. `worlds/starter-island.oar` was replaced and `SHA256SUMS.txt` updated. Nothing
  else changed.

## Files

| file | size | what | for |
|---|---|---|---|
| `paracosm-src-1.0.0.zip` | 8.0 MB | The Paracosm source at commit `278b39302301`: the OpenSimulator patches, WorldBridge, the MCP server, the Python tools, the config templates, the build and run scripts, the viewer patches and build scripts, and the handbook. A `git archive` export: no history. | Everyone. The server's config and run tools are in it, so a prebuilt server needs it too. Linux and macOS hosts build the server from it. |
| `paracosm-server-1.0.0-win64.zip` | 42.3 MB | OpenSimulator 0.9.3.0 with the Paracosm patches and WorldBridge, built on .NET 8 from the source zip. Never started, no config. `README-SERVER.txt` inside gives the three steps to configure and start it. | Windows x64 hosts that want to skip the build. |
| `Firestorm-Paracosm-7.2.5.10-win64-portable.zip` | 324.9 MB | Firestorm-Paracosm 7.2.5.10, a patched Firestorm, portable: unzip and run `Firestorm-Paracosm/FirestormOS-Paracosm.exe`. | People logging in to a Paracosm world from Windows x64. Any OpenSim-capable viewer also works. |
| `worlds/starter-island.oar` | 82.6 MB | An OpenSimulator region archive (OAR); load it with `load oar` (handbook/backup.md). | Anyone who wants this world on their own server. |
| `worlds/paracosm-island.oar` | 156.9 MB | An OpenSimulator region archive (OAR); load it with `load oar` (handbook/backup.md). | Anyone who wants this world on their own server. |
| `SHA256SUMS.txt` | | the SHA-256 of every other file here | checking a download: `sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS.txt` (Git Bash, Linux) or `Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 <file>` (PowerShell) |

## The server

OpenSimulator 0.9.3.0 (the pristine source zip, SHA-256 `44811934c289195420ec82a5d448e6ee28b6cfa6094e1a8e6882e489c0967ab7`) with the patches asset-instr, sqlite-groups, bulletsim-ghost, startup-script-guard, terrain-script-pbr, sqlite-offlineim, sqlite-profiles; WorldBridge; the official SQLite 3.47.0 x64 `sqlite3.dll`. Built with .NET SDK 8.0.422 by `build/build_server.py`, from this release's source zip, with no env file. `paracosm-build.json` in the zip records every input and output hash.

It runs on Windows x64 as it is. On Linux or macOS, build it from the source zip (`handbook/quickstart.md` section 4); the build script handles Linux but has not been run there. Building from source is also how you get a server from your own changes.

The prebuilt server has never been started: it holds no config, no databases, no logs and no WorldBridge token. Each install makes its own, with its own region UUID and tokens, in the steps `README-SERVER.txt` gives.

## The viewer

Firestorm-Paracosm 7.2.5.10 is Firestorm with ten patches, for private OpenSimulator worlds. It is a downstream modified build, not an official Firestorm release, and is not supported by the Firestorm team or by Linden Lab. Two protections set it apart:

- It asks nobody for anything on its own. By default it makes no requests to third parties: no Firestorm data files, no remote grid list, no search or marketplace pages at login (the login page is a local file), and voice is off.
- Logging in to an official Linden Lab grid (Second Life) takes a double confirmation, once per session, and an unconfirmed Linden login is refused before anything is sent. The helper bridge for an AI never runs there.

Its settings and cache live in `%APPDATA%/ParacosmViewer_x64` and `%LOCALAPPDATA%/ParacosmViewer_x64`, never shared with an installed Firestorm. Its launch on a clean Windows account has not been checked yet.

## The world spirit tooling

The tooling an AI uses to build and tend the world is inside: WorldBridge (`worldbridge/` in the source, `bin/WorldBridge.dll` in the prebuilt server), the region module that exposes the world through a token-protected HTTP API on loopback, and the MCP server (`mcp/worldbridge_mcp.py`), which gives an MCP client such as Claude Desktop or Claude Code WorldBridge's operations as `world_*` tools and the AI's own viewer as `viewer_*` tools. WorldBridge has no built-in token: its first start writes a random one to `bin/WorldBridge.token`. See `handbook/quickstart.md` section 10 and `handbook/worldbridge.md`.

## Licences

| part | licence |
|---|---|
| Paracosm's own code (WorldBridge, the MCP server, the tools, the build and run scripts, the config templates, the handbook) and its patches to OpenSimulator | BSD-3-Clause (`LICENSE`) |
| OpenSimulator | BSD-3-Clause; its third-party libraries under their own terms (in the server zip: `licenses/`) |
| SQLite (`sqlite3.dll`) | public domain |
| Firestorm-Paracosm, the viewer | LGPL 2.1. Its source is the upstream Firestorm commit named in `viewer-patches/README.md` plus the patches in `viewer-patches/` in the source zip (the viewer zip carries the same patches in `Firestorm-Paracosm/source/viewer-patches/`). Linden Lab artwork: `LICENSE-logos.txt` in the viewer zip |
| World content (meshes, textures, sounds, scripts made here) | BSD-3-Clause unless a file says otherwise |

`NOTICE.md` in the source zip says which part is under which licence.

## How this release was checked

`build/make_release.py` made this folder and checked that:

- the source zip holds nothing from the handbook's "Never in a release" list (no env file, database, token, per-install config, log or backup) and no retired demo value, private key or known credential format in its text files;
- the server zip was built from the source zip alone, with no env file, and never started: it holds no config, database, log or token, and its `OpenSim.dll`, `WorldBridge.dll` and `sqlite3.dll` match the build manifest and the pinned SQLite hash;
- the viewer zip's bundled patches (its LGPL source offer) are byte-identical to the source zip's `viewer-patches/`, and it carries no Vivox voice binaries;
- every zip reads back with good checksums, and `SHA256SUMS.txt` verifies.

31 checks passed before these notes were written.
